HERmit Space-Beijing MAHA Art Gallery / RSAA/Büro Ziyu Zhuang

Hình ảnh
The MAHA HERmit Space is located within the central park of a high-end community in the core area of Beijing. It consists of three distinct areas "Islet Space," "Cave Space," and "Ravine Space." The original site was three independent sunken courtyards in the underground parking lot of the community. BUZZ, while preserving the special value of the site, redefined them through three different design approaches, endowing the space with a completely new experience. This redesign aimed to strengthen its community and landscape attributes to meet the demands of a contemporary art space functioning as a composite content hub. http://dlvr.it/T1Kj6d

How Do You Design for Informality?

Hình ảnh
Informal architecture is the dominant mode of urbanization in rapidly growing and industrializing cities worldwide. In Delhi, the city with the largest population in India has half of its residents living in informal settlements. Lagos, with a population of over 22 million, also has 60% of its residents living in informal settlements. This pattern is also observed in Cairo, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, and other cities in the global south that face similar challenges of inequality and housing shortages. As their population grows and urbanization progresses, the exploration of informal architecture schemes to address the demand for affordable housing and basic services will only increase. While the primary purpose of design is to provide structure, lessons from informal architecture offer insights into how architects can respond to such schemes. http://dlvr.it/T1KTdD

The Landing House / Industry of All Nations

Hình ảnh
The Landing House is a modern wood pavilion integrated into the rugged natural landscape of the Mojave Desert, against the backdrop of California’s Joshua Tree National Park. Approximately 130 miles east of Los Angeles, and only minutes from the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, The Landing House is seemingly worlds away. Designed with sustainability at its core, and at every turn, the home masterfully blends into the layout, textures, and color palette of its desert canvas. http://dlvr.it/T1KTVW

From New Buildings to Retrofit Projects: Solar Facade Systems for a Circular and Low-Carbon Architecture

Hình ảnh
The sun’s influence on human life encompasses multiple dimensions, from biological and developmental aspects to religious-mythological connotations in civilizations such as the Egyptians and Romans. Moreover, this influence extends to its use as a natural resource within the realm of science. In scientific pursuits, the continuous search to harness the sun as an energy source has been a constant throughout the years. Within this context, the discovery of the photovoltaic effect and its application have paved the way in the history of solar panels, starting from the first observations of Becquerel to the initial prototypes of Charles Fritts in the 19th century. http://dlvr.it/T1KTG0

The design stacks seven types of cubes, each measuring seven stories in height and defined by a distinct visual identity inspired by both urban and rural elements. The project, developed in collaboration with local architects Artech, has received planning permission, and construction is expected to begin in early spring. http://dlvr.it/T1KT3H

Cascading Terraces / Arch.Lab

The agency of making here rested with the architect-as-client, and there has been careful deliberation on re-introducing a culturally rooted domesticity. The house revolves around the spatial experience of the in-between spaces – the connections and continuity. The brief formulated was a house for a family of six with the kids - the three-generational required spaces to potentially expand, ease of movement for the older generation, and making the ground floor a central pivot for family activities.  Moving from the park-facing interiority of a row house onto a larger row house plot that (eventually) faces another, the luxury of an extended verandah would not be possible. Hence, the house believes in expanding the thresholds to spatially connect at multiple levels.  http://dlvr.it/T1HBrm

MSG Developer Officially Withdraws Plans for Sphere in London

Hình ảnh
Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSG), the developer behind the recently opened The Sphere at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, has announced that plans for a similar project in London have been withdrawn for lack of support from London’s planning officials, as reported by The Guardian. The plans were initially announced in 2018, with planning permission filed in March 2019. The 300ft-tall structure, having a capacity of 21,000 seats, was to be located in Stratford, east London. In November 2023, following a combination of unfavorable comments in planning officer reports and opposition from residents, London’s mayor Sadiq Khan withdrew his initial support. http://dlvr.it/T1GkYk
