The old house in the historic center of Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan, had clumsy additions that were removed and replaced with a clear and contemporary addition that created three lush courtyards for maximum natural light and cross breezes. Besides a historic, stone house, the site also provided a large, existing royal palm tree. In an effort to save the tree and create a more intimate relationship with the existing tree, the house was designed to wrap around the tree. The existing historic house was renovated with a restored facade and new finishes emblematic of Merida’s historic architecture, such as rough plaster walls and colorful 'pasta' tile floors. Located in the “Ten Crossing” scenic area in Fangshan, Beijing, the project finds itself in one of the most magnificent Karst landscapes in northern China. The site as we found it, was an old farmyard in the middle of the mountain. In this project, confronting the unconquerable nature as well as the individual’s need for shelter, we tried to transform the outside world into part of the body’s “digging”. New Japanese Style = Roof that is Continuous Like a Strap - The site is in the eastern hills away from the center of Mito City. It was developed by clearing a wooded area and filling in a valley. As a result of the search to avoid different types of foundation structures and to use direct foundations, a strap-like shape emerged, which defined the building's layout and external form. The purpose of this facility was to provide a place for relaxation and recreation to ease the psychological burden on residents caused by the nearby waste incineration plant and the crematorium to be built in the future. The main functions of the facility are a sports practice area, including a gym room and a multipurpose room, an indoor swimming pool, and a public bathhouse. Kuwait is planning a 1,600-hectare development that will provide residential units, jobs, and amenities for 100,000 residents. Developed by URB, the ambitious project aims to promote a sustainable lifestyle with high standards of living, yet a low impact on the environment. The masterplan for the smart city is designed to optimize density and amenities distribution to create a walkable city, while also optimizing the green space ratio. This will help mitigate the effects of rising temperatures and the urban heat island effect. The green transportation systems and dedicated cycling tracks will make this a car-free city, apart from a ring road that allows for limited vehicular access. While the purpose of a gallery can change from time to time, the space needs to be strong enough to prevent noise from interfering with the artworks and objects and to provide a balanced view of the works on display. In this project, however, the future direction of the works to be exhibited will be determined by the location of Kurashiki's Bikan Historical Quarter and the site that will be created in the future. In other words, we thought that the space itself must be the first work in this gallery. However, if the work or its individuality were to stand out, the impression and stereotypes of what would be placed in the gallery would become stronger. Honoring the 2022 Laureate, the Burkinabé architect Francis Kére, The Pritzker Prize releases a ceremony video from the recently opened Marshall Building at the LSE, designed by the 2020 Pritzker Laureates Yvonne Farrell, and Shelley McNamara. The surroundings of the villa are characterized by a relatively homogeneous structure of solitary houses at more or less regular intervals. Plots of the individual houses have gardens, which together form a continuous garden landscape. The proposed family house respects this typical intermittent development and occupies the site of the original house. “I am a Malaysian Hikikomori, and this is my story” is an online article that came about during the lockdown periods in the year 2020 that tells a story of an extreme introvert with her social discrimination and how she sees people follow society’s made-up standards where ones have to act a certain way to be accepted. It was only when the Covid-19 pandemic hit with its lockdowns, that she felt for the first time in life as if she was alive and normal, at least to the eyes of society, as she was living fully as before while others were struggling to cope for simply being at home. Introverse was born out of this social context, where the rights in our social perception could have been wrong and the wrongs were right. The two-story office extension is located in the backyard of a turn-of-the-century building near the Isar River in the Au district of Munich. The continuing demand for new space in Munich is increasing the pressure on existing buildings in particular. The potential for densification, by means of roof extensions and stories, is either already almost exhausted or limited by the authorities. Kv Ledvolten is a central location in the new rapidly growing Ulriksdal district in Stockholm, Sweden. The volume is partly triangular and detached surrounded by streets on three sides and a square to the north. Its volumetric presence is prominent when arriving at the site. Located on a mountainside with sunrise vistas, the owner picked the perfect idyllic location to build a courtyard homestay for his family and friends. The project is situated in a village in Tengchong, Yunnan province, and overlooks the famous ancient town of Heshun across a paddy field. The site has the advantage of a wide outlook and quiet environment and enjoys a pleasant climate year-round. At the outset, we visited nearby villages with the owner, studied the layout of traditional-style dwellings and local construction materials, looking for construction teams, and discussed feasible construction techniques. Even with a lot of preparatory work, we still faced many difficulties at the later stage. After the conceptual design was completed, the site was completely overturned due to force majeure, and the structural system had to be replaced after the construction drawings had been issued and regulations on the ancient town’s style and features became more stringent. Sandringham House is a refuge for a young family in the Bayside suburb of Melbourne. The restrained black pavilion is nestled into the landscape under the canopy of a substantial oak tree. Realized by URBAN architects in the center of Namur (Belgium), the "Yellow Submarine" pavilion completes a larger rehabilitation program of a former mansion into a complex of offices and housing. The pavilion works independently: it includes an independent access system, several offices, a waiting room, a multifunctional space, and an independent toilet block. "Yellow Submarine" offers its users an atypical workplace within a bucolic space, in total disconnection from the urban environment that adjoins it. http://dlvr.it/SY6JXB

Some of the most characteristic features of city squares are related to the presence of people in the space and the purposes they are given, such as places for socializing, sports, tourism, and demonstrations. These different uses, often not foreseen in the project, are closely associated with the ground level, where people can walk around and experience the space. Fenghuang Lake CBD is the densest block of global leading enterprises in the segmented industry in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. Since 2010, with the completion of the Zhenshi Hotel and Zhenshi, headquarter tower, the two high-rise buildings of Fenghuang Lake which are located south and north of the lake, has become a city landmark. During the period, the manufacturing industry became the national economic center, and China JushiGroup, the world's number one in glass fiber, is also growing rapidly. In 2016, the client approached GN architects again and began to discuss the positioning of a new tower as Jushi headquarter. In a rapidly changing environment, the client wanted the building to be able to adapt to the current state of use, also enough flexible space they can manage efficiency and more room for value transformation in the future. The Jushi Tower, located on the central axis of Fenghuang Lake CBD in Tongxiang City, faces Feng Huang Lake Park to the south and adjacent to CBD&

This project is to turn an old house into a café. The relationship between the new building and the old roof was important. It was not a matter of preservation, but rather a matter of the simple fact that ‘different times meet.’ There are so many examples of renovating old houses. In addition to home renovations in Japan, many houses in Seoul are now being transformed into commercial spaces. What was important to me was the complete separation of the 1980s and 2020s by the roof and walls. The roof has already been completed, so I thought that newly created things should be extremely current. The ray of time does not come down under the roof. In the middle of the Flemish fields, we started working on an existing single-family house and adjoining stables. Together with the owners and their recently retired parents, we transformed the existing farmhouse into two homes, one of which is a care home, where it is possible to continue to live for life. SMOORE Jiangmen Industrial Park is located in Jianghai District, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, adjacent to Xijiang, and the Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway and Xijiang Bridge can be seen in the distance. With the L shape layout, the site covers an area of 16,429 square meters that the developer rents, which is part of the area in the factory group that connects many plants. The park consists of an administration building, two production plants, a processing plant, and a square in the middle of the park, with a total building construction area of 16300 square meters. As the development and transformation of the industrial pattern in the Greater Bay Area, Jiangmen has launched the policy of Urban Renewal to promote the transformation and upgrading of old industrial plants to attract more emerging industries into the local area. http://dlvr.it/SY1q4W

The structure links an existing residence and outbuilding, used primarily for entertainment purposes, on the southern slope of the Bronberg Mountain in Pretoria, South Africa. The spaces were only connected by a timber walkway constructed on the forest floor that leads past a waterfall cascading into a deep pond constructed of natural stone. The songs of birds hang tangibly between the foliage of the indigenous tree canopy where light filters through the cool shaded air in beams of the misty haze. http://dlvr.it/SY1Tv1

The new Advanced Technology and Applied Science (ATAS) building at Saddleback College is a 52,100 SF facility that supports multiple modalities of learning (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile) in career technical education (CTE) and more traditional disciplines. This project involves the conversion of a space that formerly housed an office into a house for a couple. The space enjoys unique views of the Gava Mar Beach. A picture in continuous transformation, formed by pines that allow a glimpse of the sea between their trunks. The main concept of the project is to generate a natural interior landscape that is in harmony with the exterior environment. The horizon line draws the changing duality between the sky and the sea, so sensitively reflected in Hiroshi Sugimoto's work Seascapes. The design highlights this horizontality through a game of levels at different heights, giving rise to a succession of horizons inside the new house. http://dlvr.it/SY0wPg

The metropolitan area between the college town of Fayetteville, the buzzing art hub of Bentonville, and the bedroom communities of Rogers and Springdale are expected to double in size over the next two decades, and like many quickly growing urban areas across the country, there aren’t enough places to live. http://dlvr.it/SXyzk7

Pu’er is a small city in southern Yunnan Province. The region enjoys an agreeable climate and a preferable natural environment. The client had asked for a house in which three generations of her family would live together. The site is in an affluent area with freestanding villas, mostly three stories high. The new house is a three-story structure of grey off-form concrete walls textured with rough wooden formwork. This direct expression of concrete and a refusal to express a preference for color marks a humble but uncompromising posture against the light pink and yellow buildings nearby. A curved boundary wall on the north side acts as a buffer against traffic noise. Major spaces of the house are oriented to the hill on the southwestern side of the site since this orientation is relatively private and related directly to nature. http://dlvr.it/SXyXSq

This is a takeaway coffee shop. Based on the first floor of a commercial office building near Huan Shi Dong Road, the ring road of Guangzhou City, it has only 9 square meters of indoor area. To differentiate and form an impression of the shop at the level of the street interface, we shaped our image through an independent structure, avoiding the common flatness when the façade is only a thin surface on the building’s finish. Meanwhile, we want to make the coffee shop’s facade a relatively closed way, keeping it somehow mysterious and facing the bustling street with ease. http://dlvr.it/SXyC5k

Transform the open courtyard into a coffee pavilion integrating the new functions into its old context in front of Gravity Café in Khon Kaen University. The design of this pavilion is based on the idea of keeping the existing trees intact but adding benches for sipping coffee. Jean Nouvel's recently completed towers, Tours Duo, redefined the Parisian skyline. Captured by Paul Clemence in his latest photo series, the project by Ateliers Jean Nouvel creates a singularity in relation to the rails that lead into the city's heart and defines the Avenue de France. Established as a landmark of the East side of Paris, considered to be the future of the city, Tours Duo is a mixed-use project that completes and modifies the unfinished context of this part of the city. http://dlvr.it/SXxdDv

Sanskruti School is an exclusive pre-primary school for an already existing school campus at Gokak. The planning philosophy is directed by considering the psychological and physical needs of kindergarten children who have tendencies to explore spaces with exciting avenues and colorful vistas with minimum boundaries. A triangular-shaped piece of land sandwiched between an existing school building on the north, a set of playgrounds on the east and west sides, and the campus property edge abutting the city’s vehicular road on the south was identified as an appropriate location for a new pre-primary school building, crafting the elevation for the entire campus as it stands in the foreground of the existing buildings. http://dlvr.it/SXtv8D

The project comprised alterations and additions to a 1950’s “Tocumwal” cottage in Canberra’s Inner North. The original cottage was relocated to Canberra from a former military intelligence base built during WW2 in the southern NSW town of Tocumwal. It is one of a number of heritage-listed examples of the Tocumwal housing typology remaining in Canberra. The original cottage was retained and refurbished, with minor modifications made to the rear of the house to accommodate a connection through to the new buildings. http://dlvr.it/SXtdVP

The first and only formal architecture union in the American private sector was just formed by Bernheimer Architecture's employees after two years of the union campaign. The Union aims to reframe the discipline and profession and create an established sector of better labor rights standards and work conditions.
