The Dimmick Drive Houses are a pair of single-family residences on an extremely steep lot in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles. At 2,000sf each, the pair are modest in size and have an unusual four-story configuration to minimize impact on the hillside. http://dlvr.it/SvMhR8

When talking about space-making practices, architects and urban planners are usually thinking about participatory planning and collaborative processes, often overlooking the ways in which the communities themselves can become their own agents of change. As the people poses an intimate knowledge of not only their environment, but also of social and cultural norms, the needs of their communities and latent opportunities within their surroundings, they are often the ones initiating actions, supporting their peers and contributing positively to their locality. Research-focused office forty five degrees set out to explore these grass-roots initiatives, to meet the locals and gather their stories in an effort to gain a better understanding of the complex and diverse cultural territories across Europe. Atelier du Pont has built its own office building in the heart of the 11th district of Paris. On the first floor of a building along Nakamachi Street, near the Kichijoji Station – this is where the first branch of the soymilk specialty store, “Tototo & Soymilk” is located. This soymilk store is a new business for the client, and they researched and investigated the soymilk production process. After repeated investigations into adjusting the taste, they produced smooth and delicious soymilks while keeping the original taste of the soybeans in the soymilks. http://dlvr.it/SvDXmP

The Bridge–Plaza is a newly completed pedestrian and cyclist bridge that links Kaunas' old city center with the iconic Nemunas Island Park. The project is part of the wider master plan that stretches until the industrial areas on the left bank in Aleksotas, and the lower Freda districts, including the future larger pedestrian bridge, National Science and Innovation Centre, and M.K Ciurlionis Concert Hall. The development of cultural infrastructure in India has historically been a government endeavor, often resulting in a state of stagnation. The past two decades have seen a noticeable shift in the country’s cultural landscape. Increased interest from private institutions has paved the way for plenty of cultural projects to be initiated, usually in partnership with city authorities. The Casa Senses is a hotel refuge proposal in the countryside built at CasaCorRio 2023 by architects Cadé Marino, Michelle Wilkinson, and Thiago Morsch, from UP3 Architecture office, at the invitation of Brentwood, which provided all the furniture for the space, including armchairs, tables, chairs, sofas, bench, bed, etc. The house was assembled from three reused containers and a metal structure that allowed expanding the built area, in a box format, up to 105m2.  http://dlvr.it/Sv2zxC

Nobel Literature Laureate Octavio Paz argued that architecture is an incorruptible witness to history. The intervention consists of the refurbishment of a dwelling in a century-old residential building in the Sants district, in Barcelona. The flat was in a bad condition, after many years of poor maintenance, with outdated facilities and structural pathologies that had worsened over the years, and a very unfortunate distribution, with a long corridor that widened creating a space with no defined use, two interior rooms with no natural lighting or ventilation, and one room accessed through another. The Auditorium and the Central Library of Semnan University were designed in 2007 and span an area of 14,000 square meters. The project contains a series of lecture and educational halls, a multi-purpose central auditorium, and a library that was constructed and developed in different phases. The avant-garde architecture is inspired by traditional Iranian motifs, particularly evident in the intricate openings and ribbons applied on the facade which adorn the building, reflect the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Iran, and allow the use of natural light. Milan’s iconic Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, also known as San Siro, has been saved from demolition after a decision of the Regional Commission for the Cultural Heritage of Lombardy has determined that the stadium holds cultural significance. The stadium, home ground to f AC Milan and Inter Milan football teams, was set to be replaced by a new stadium, named “The Cathedral”, designed by American architecture studio Populous. ULTEAM is a rehabilitation project for a group of offices, that includes a Haussmannian building and a structure from the 1950s. The Hotel Particulier (Private mansion) with its main courtyard and traditional French garden, dating from 1820, is at the heart of the project. The first in a series of bridges on Chengdu's West Line Road, the 295-meter Chengdu West First Bridge crosses the Jiangxi River, a tributary of the Tuojiang River in China’s Sichuan province. With its 185-meter central span and 55-meter secondary spans reaching the riverbanks, the Chengdu West First Bridge is a road, cycle, and pedestrian bridge over the meandering Jiangxi River; enabling the West Line Road to become the western section of the Airport New Town ring-road and cycle route. http://dlvr.it/Stm5MH

Concrete has enormous resistance to compressive stress, but it is a fragile material in terms of tension, which occurs when forces are applied in opposite directions of a structure, tending to separate the parts. This is why the incorporation of steel into concrete –which provides high levels of strength when stretched– has made so-called reinforced concrete the world's most widely used construction method. In other words, reinforced concrete combines the intrinsic advantages of its two components (concrete and steel reinforcement) to produce an extremely robust, versatile, and practical material. Void House is a farmhouse located within a cluster of farmlands, providing an ideal setting for farming and a peaceful retreat from urban life. The client's main desire was to have ample land for farming while also having a weekend house for their family. To achieve this, the farmhouse was strategically positioned in a diagonally opposite corner from the crossing of roads, allowing for maximum farming space and creating a larger foreground with greater distance from neighboring farmhouses. http://dlvr.it/StZcvc

Architecture studio ELASTICOFarm, led by Stefano Pujatti, has been awarded the Premio Italiano di Architettura (Italian Architecture Prize), promoted by the Triennale di Milano and MAXXI. The award, now in its fourth edition, is received in recognition of their S-LAB project, a new building in Turin, Italy, for the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN). The commission consisted of a mountain refuge on a wooded terrain in the town of Malalcahuello, near the Corralco ski center, Araucanía region, southern Chile. Due to the moisture of the terrain, given the snowfall in winter of more than 80 cm in height, the structure was designed starting from a steel floor structure, and from there, the walls and roof were completely made of wood. http://dlvr.it/StXpjM

Tropical architecture, a term widely used in architectural discourse, lacks a consistent definition. The adjective ‘tropical’ relates to the zone between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, which covers more than 40% of the earth’s surface. Heat is possibly the only shared characteristic of this belt. The tropical zone holds a range of climates from arid to wet, as well as a variety of geographic, social, and economic contexts. The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) announced Madrid-based practice Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos as the winner of the international design competition Reimagining the Dallas Museum of Art. The project was selected out of 154 submissions from around the world, and a shortlist featuring internationally recognized names such as David Chipperfield Architects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Johnston Marklee, Michael Maltzan Architecture and Weiss/Manfredi. The winning proposal was conceived ‘as a reflection of the original building, transforming the relationship between art, landscape, and community into a balance of memory and innovation,’ according to the architects.
