Lake Barcroft is a 135-acre lake located in Falls Church, Virginia. The community comprises approximately 1,040 homes with 225 houses that share lakefront property. The houses in the community were constructed in 1949, and most employ a ranch-style or split-level vernacular. While the lake is located a mere ten miles from the US Capitol, the lakefront community enjoys a psychological reprieve from the urban core of Washington, DC. The steeply sloping, wooded lot where this new house is constructed, was one of the few remaining vacant waterfront lots at Lake Barcroft. http://dlvr.it/SNT5xx

The two-story property had previously been neglected for years and the building received little natural light due to small windows and tight site constraints. Bridging a neighborhood's past and future. 800 Fulton is a mixed-use office building that marks the gateway to one of Chicago's most dynamic neighborhoods. With a series of setbacks and landscaped terraces, the 19-story design is carefully proportioned to relate to the rhythm and scale of the Fulton Market District's historic low-rise streetscape, while connecting to the higher-density commercial district to the north. http://dlvr.it/SNRJ1J

La Criolla is a small commune with just over 2,300 inhabitants, located 185 kilometers north of the capital of Santa Fe province. Based on a fund for minor works that the commune received annually, a project is presented for the first functionalization stage of a railway shed, as a center and space for cultural production. The requested program incorporated a rehearsal/exhibition sector, a room/auditorium for 100 spectators, a workshop for staging/scenography, a support sector with a dressing room, and a sanitary nucleus that should also serve the adjacent public spaces, within a park complex of 16ha. http://dlvr.it/SNQk9x

This is a weekend house in Kirishima, Japan.The living space is only one-third of the total floor area and the multi-purpose garage and storage account for the rest. So, this house is like a small residence built in a large warehouse. The project was carried out on a multi-family building between party walls, located in the old center of the town. The original building dates from before 1900 and is the result of an agglomeration of old dwellings with complex geometries. The intervention affects several floors of the building. The first floor is L-shaped and is the result of joining two dwellings from different periods, which are linked by an interior courtyard that will allow the day and night programs to be connected. Paraíso Apartament is a renovation project for a 123 m2 apartment located in the Olga Ferreira Building, within the Paraíso neighborhood, in south São Paulo. Presidio Tunnel Tops is San Francisco’s upcoming national park destination, set to welcome visitors starting July 17th. The project reconnects the park formerly split in two by the Doyle Drive by creating new landscaped land over the highway now moved underground. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the firm behind New York’s High Line, the project brings 5.6 hectares (14 acres) of new parkland to the Bay Area, featuring trails, picnic areas, and scenic views over the city as well as a nature play area for kids. http://dlvr.it/SNMp5b

This project is aimed at renovating a historic site into a community center for a residential complex. The main goals are to remove the sense of secrecy and confidentiality associated with the old KMT facility, to establish a feeling of openness, but still maintain a level of control and enclosure. Using the area’s abundance of trees, grass and plants, we also decided that we would synergize the modern, open architecture with the green nature around it. Site and Background: Somewhere in the Tengger Desert. The project is located in the Shapotou Touristic District in Zhongwei City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR), China, which is a sand sea about 2km away from the desert reserve. In recent years, desert tourism in Zhongwei is in the ascendant, and the Desert Galaxy Camp is a newly developed camp. As the main building of the site, the project not only provides supporting services for the camp, such as catering and comprehensive reception, but also serves as the symbol of the whole camp. http://dlvr.it/SNLRml

The detached house was designed near Poznań in a quiet area surrounded by a forest. The main design aim was to create a simple longitudinal body that would separate household members from the street and open onto the garden, ensuring privacy. From the garden, there is a view of the beautiful surrounding greenery from the 22-meter string of windows. A large amount of windows also poses a challenge, which is an overheating of the building. However, in the case of this house, the deciduous trees solve this problem. In the summertime, they form a barrier to the sunlight and during winter, after losing leaves, they allow free access. http://dlvr.it/SNKJNC

Merkem is a small village in West Flanders, counting 2,300 inhabitants. After having been completely destroyed in the First World War it was reconstructed in the 1920s in a typical local building style, being a characteristic example of post-war reconstruction architecture. The village is situated along two main roads joining in a T-junction. The commission granted to Rapp+Rapp consisted of two parts: the redesign of public space along the main streets in the village and the construction of a new community centre. http://dlvr.it/SNJxQt

The original single storey Edwardian cottage was dark and lacked connection to the outside.  We used 10 folds in the roof to draw in light along the skinny, long house and site.  The folds minimise bulk to the eastern neighbour and rise up to the large two-storey contemporary western neighbour. The house humbly addresses the street with a contemporary tweak to the Edwardian cottage and the two storey part of the house sits further back from the street hiding the bedroom volume behind it. http://dlvr.it/SNJcHN

The Green Silhouette is a renewal project, rebuilt from an abandoned structure that was part of a master plan with 3 buildings on the same plot. Considering recent changes in market trends, the old structure had to be torn down since it no longer fit the new unit layouts. However, following the authority’s requirement for resubmission, the building could not be demolished completely resulting in the reuse of the existing foundation and retention of the existing column layout on the ground floor with some addition of a new structure. Located on Mourato Coelho street - the inspiration for its name - the Moou building is a new proposal for social integration, urbanism, and authentic design in the heart of Vila Madalena, the birthplace of the bohemian city of São Paulo. Signed by FGMF, the project has a total area of 1200m2, on land with a great natural slope, which was used in a unique way in the organization of internal spaces and in the delivery of an urban kindness to everyone who passes through the region. http://dlvr.it/SNHrKH

The project concerns a bungalow from the 1950s located on a spacious plot with a green character. In the 00s, the house was extended at the rear facade with a ground floor volume in dark gray brick. The main volume also received a new cladding in white plaster with gray aluminum window frames. The characteristic canopy around the gently sloping roof was retained as a visible reminder of the original post-war villa that was concealed in the stucco. A house with two faces was formed: a white abstraction of the past on the front facade stands in stark contrast with the dark stone no-nonsense architecture on the rear facade. http://dlvr.it/SNGzVG

An apartment complex in the historical center of Riga, HOFT comprises the remaining 19th century Art Nouveau facade building (by architect Karl Johann Felsko) with two additional floors and a seven-story travertine-clad new volume. The Client for this project is a professional couple with their children.  Sitting at the junction of 2 roads, the peculiar sprawling fan-shaped site spanning approximately 10,649 square feet is a multi-tiered site that slopes up from the front of the house to the rear. This unique mid-century modern house from the office of Ralph Twitchell suffered years of modifications and neglect. Doors and windows between inside and outside and doors between rooms, including bathrooms, had been removed. The transformation of a small, dark laborer’s house into a contemporary family house. The client, a preschool teacher, and her son stressed the importance of an open house with a lot of light. The Panda Tower is designed by UDG Atelier Alpha for the new campus of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. It is a new cultural landmark that combines observation, exhibition, and sightseeing. Between two banks and in the extension of the town hall, the project constitutes the link between the two parts of the village. The solid stone support points carry the project from one bank of the Azergues river to the other. ADU as we understand from the term “Accessory Dwelling Unit” implies an accessory house that belongs to the main house. Our initial design was driven by rethinking the value of ADU not as a secondary house and discovering any overlooked aspects that might be interesting and effective in design. There are many reasons people are building ADU, but the intended use of this ADU is for a rental unit. Design and construction of a kiosk and its adjoining terrace for the culture agency Bon Esprit, in the Parc Des Impressionnistes in Clichy, France. Aiming to instigate a new dynamic for the public park located in a part of Clichy currently under construction, the city in partnership with Bon Esprit worked on implementing a new space composed of a bar, a restaurant, a small stage, and a terrace. A new exhibition at the Japan House in London explores the large-scale art and architecture project driving the transformation of the Japanese island of Inujima for the past 13 years. Titled Symbiosis: Living Island, the show co-curated by the project's artistic director Yūko Hasegawa and architect Kazuyo Sejima showcases how the innovative scheme of accessible art, pavilions and creative projects brought together artists and locals in the effort to revitalize and secure a future for this island in the Seto Inland Sea confronted with diminishing population. The Forestias is one of the largest property development projects in Thailand. The highlight of the project is a 48,000 square meter of urban forest at the center of The Forestias, connecting all developments within the site to create a healthier and happier living for all residents. Le bâtiment descendant l’escalier is the residential and commercial building that ELASTICOFarm completed, together with bplan, in Lido di Jesolo, a tourist seaside destination close to Venice, Italy. The building emerges with strength and determination amid suburban sameness to affirm the need for renewal and redemption from the banal uniformity of the surrounding constructions. The oldest record of barrel vaults is estimated to date back to 4000 BC. These provided the spans in the Sumerian ziggurat at Nippur in Babylonia, built from fired bricks amalgamated with clay mortar. This type of vault was built as a continuous round arch and became a characteristic architectural element of Roman architecture, later used also in Renaissance architecture. http://dlvr.it/SN4yYf

Abu Dhabi unveiled plans for a Natural History Museum designed by Dutch practice Mecanoo. The project resembles natural rock formations, and geometric shapes are present across all design elements, accompanied by the presence of water and vegetation. The 35,000 square-meter venue will feature gallery display areas, temporary exhibition spaces and theatre spaces, as well as an innovative research facility for the study of zoology, palaeontology, marine biology, molecular research and earth sciences. Ice sue’s house is a two – stories house located in the residential area in Bangkok. Surrounded by the neighbors, the owners required a living area with high level of privacy yet remained some relation to the outside nature. The clients, a couple with children, originally came to our firm with a request to renovate the childhood home of one partner to accommodate two households, theirs and their parents. However, partway through the planning process, they decided instead to search for a new property and build a single-family residence. http://dlvr.it/SN30HW

We find that the existing house to intervene was resolved on a single floor, detached from the perimeter walls, except in the garage sector, discovering a continuous courtyard that takes on different dimensions from the entrance of the house to the back of it. By Jimena Hogrebe. Hilda went looking for a change of lifestyle in San Miguel de Allende and ended up creating El Recinto. Located on an elongated and deep lot, it was conceived with a public first floor and a private second floor with three rooms. Over time she imagined that the project could become a place of communion and wanted it to grow to receive family, friends, residents, and travelers. Pamulang University has chosen Antonius Richard and RAD+ar to design their new Islamic Oriented public square, plaza building, and public artwork. The project attempts to strengthen the character of its Islamic based development, reconcile cultures and define identities. The project is one of the symmetrical commercial buildings around the central axis of Foshan City. The original state is a 300-square-meter glass building, and its dullness can be imagined. The owners are a French dessert shop and wool felt art shop. How to combine two different types of spaces so that they can coexist harmoniously will be an interesting exploration. After communication, it was found that the glass curtain wall could not be changed, so we arranged a new facade image with stainless steel ribs, and at the same time gave the interior a looming feeling. The integrated design of the platform and outdoor seating replaces the temporary feeling of the slope, and at the same time forms a spacious outside swing area to make up for the lack of indoor dining space. http://dlvr.it/SMzMGw

This residential project involved the construction of three distinct structures, creating additional interior space and forming a private courtyard for an existing house that remains in place. Five Shadows, located on a prime site at the base of the Teton Mountain Range, belies the density of the surrounding area. Sited at the western boundary of development, the project lives on the fringes of a meadow near an aspen and conifer forest that cascades down from the summit of Rendezvous Peak. Located at the edge of Miami in the Village of El Portal sits the newly completed Skatebird Skatepark, a large open-air urban space that exists as a skatepark, event space, and place for the arts. At approximately 38,000 square feet, the skatepark consists of three parts: the skateable terrain, the enclosing walls, and the large roof that covers half the site, providing a dry and shady spot for visitors to escape harsh sunlight, as well as sporadic rainfall. http://dlvr.it/SMtdRt
