On the border of the historical flea market in Saint-Ouen, this small mixed-use building – architecture studio office and collective housing, is set in a typical suburban fabric, defined by heterogeneous and relatively low-rise buildings. The very first difficulty in the project conception was to integrate the building in the small plot of land while respecting as much as possible its residential environment. The graduating height of the five-story volume makes it possible to associate a dwelling to the north and a townhouse to the south. The footprint leaves free space to a 50 m² courtyard which represents a breathing space into the dense fabric and creates a transparency towards the city. http://dlvr.it/RtcT9g

To intervene on a building facing the street raised a question on whether to act through its replacement or through reconstruction and volumetric integration. Choosing the latter answers two complementary instances: on the one hand to avoid a complete demolition and reconstruction and on the other the desire to preserve the memory of the pre-existing building as part of the urban scene. The choice to contaminate the old and the new is part of a more general conviction for which it is believed that rewriting the history of a building by modifying it and transforming it is often more interesting than its annulment and replacement, as has become evident, even on an urban scale. http://dlvr.it/RtbX3Y

Warot Building is the latest addition to the public facilities of the village of Winksele. It hosts a wide range of activities in a carefully designed multifunctional hall. The building is situated on an existing sports campus that is surrounded by rural landscape and public facilities. Located in the Algarve, south of Portugal, this house was built as a refuge from the bustle of the busy city. With its façades almost fully glazed, the interior of the house allows endless vistas of pine trees that are all around the site, whereas the façade edges with wooden slats (ensuring privacy for the bathrooms) reinforce the wooden character of the house and enhance its integration in the natural landscape. http://dlvr.it/RtWq2x

The pavilion for the Revolution of Dignity Museum is a short-span project to galvanize the transformation of the surrounded landscape. Since 2018 when the two best projects for the Museum Building and of Memorial for the Heavenly Hundred Heroes were selected through competitions nothing happened. While collective memory of recent events is still waiting for the comprehensive spaces, people go to the site every day for remembering and gathering. Moreover, the State Intuition, Museum of Dignity, requires the space for events and activities. The best idea is to do the transformation right on the construction site of the future Museum, 150 meters far from Independence square. The building ensemble on Oetztaler Strasse in Stuttgart is defined by the already existing Wilhelm School and the new kindergarten building. The urban context is characterised by the dense and heterogeneous residential environment and the impressive Art Nouveau school building. The existing kindergarten in Oetztaler Strasse, which was in serious need of renovation, has been replaced by the new building containing six groups. Casa 3 Patios was a project assignment for a client to live in the house with her teenage son. The Field House consists of a series of small units that each contain their own function: a bedroom unit, a unit for communal space, and a reading room unit. The cluster of small volumes is a contemporary interpretation of a local settlement typology traditionally seen in old fishing villages and small farmhouses on the island of Fårö. A new dance school, events space, and artists’ studios have been carved out of dilapidated and disused historic outbuildings. The Mt. Merino Pool House was designed to create a seamless connection with the landscape of Hudson, New York. A combination of glass, concrete, and engineered wood creates a dynamic space from stock components. Three wings radiate from the central kitchen and dining area. “Stepping through the dark gates, an atmosphere of green calm embraces you, gently disconnecting you from the rush and noise of the city.” The owners' intention of Hotel Graace is thrilling. Staged on an old factory site within an urban perimeter block the twenty-eight modular hotel rooms are linked together by a unique open space.  Set underneath the ancient steel-work construction, the hotel presents itself with lots of green outdoor spaces. The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated transformations, such as teleworking or sustainable mobility, that are here to stay. Other alterations may be temporary, but 2020 will be remembered as the year when we enjoyed the interior of our homes the most. Towards high-density low-rise. This project is in its core a typological experiment: a maximum of individual homes with private gardens on a relatively small urban plot; a model for the development of more compact settlements with a density of approx. 40 houses per hectare. It aims to offer an alternative to living on the periphery of big cities for people who would like to live in a private house in a more urban context. The project tries to find answers to the typological challenges inherent to high-density low-rise developments:  How much individuality is possible? How much privacy is necessary? The weather is strong, it dominates jeju life, it is very windy quite often, and weather changes instantaneously.  The basalt rocks are everywhere, demarcating fields, and individual houses. The orum, which is like a little hill, is everywhere, more than 350 of them in jeju island. It creates a scene. The island is sort of an exotica among Koreans, weather and vegetation reminds them of tropics. In the past, it was home for many exiles from the mainland. Time flows rather differently here. The restaurant is designed in the style of a city café in the building of the past cinema of Chervonograd city, built in 1970. Now this building is converted to the needs of the shopping center. The project was developed by the Lviv family bureau of architecture and design BARANBURO. The application of the concept of a city café made it possible to create a space that would attract city residents of all ages. The aim of this project was to create something new and unusual in the city, a kind of explosion that would initiate positive changes and trends in the design of the city. The new pharmacy on the corner of Jurmalas gatve and Dzirciema street is not just a building, but rather a peculiar hybrid between an environmental installation and a building. The particularity of the area suggested a building intervention that re-proposes, in the current interpretation, a residential building that can be traced back to an architecture that respects the surrounding natural environment and with references to traditional forms and building techniques. The project aims to create a new functional and comfortable school restaurant service, for students and teachers, as well as for the staff of the existing educational establishment. The SD Residence occupies a compact plot, located in a rationally urbanized late 70s neighborhood in the outskirts of Tetovo, North Macedonia with a panoramic view towards the Sharr Mountains. http://dlvr.it/Rt5k5g

This project consists of the refurbishment and extension of a “Casa Chorizo”, a traditional housing typology that arose in Buenos Aires in the late 20th century, representative of the urban middle class and the immigration waves of the time. Sjøholt is a small town in beautiful Sunnmøre in the western part of Norway. This town has a rich history and has for several centuries been a connection between land and sea. When tourists came here at the beginning of the 20th century, the historical city center developed into a vibrant place. Time passed and modernist city planning ruined the vibrant city center with a highway. Nowadays the municipality of Ørskog has taken action in revitalizing the city center, and especially the waterfront. Lykta is a tiny intervention, but it has the effect that the public can discover the waterfront in a new way. It marks the beginning of the newly-built environment by the harbor. After the tunneling of the A2 motorway in Maastricht and the construction of the new greenbelt De Groene Loper had been completed, the Vrijheidspark was laid out in the area near Koningsplein. This project, by Adam Nathaniel Furman and Sibling Architecture, transforms NGV’s Gallery Kitchen for NGV Triennial 2020 by drawing inspiration from three spatial typologies - the boudoir, the salon, and the club - to challenge and rethink norms of how people come together and socialise. The existing cafe is transformed with ludicrously vibrant scenography that plays with the appearance of how people gather and socialise. At the centre, a column becomes a circular catwalk. For those not prepared to strut, modesty screens, with bodily motifs, ruptures divisions between dinners, including as these modesty screens can be rearranged in the space. “Synvillan” – Eriksberg Hotel & Nature Reserve. Synvillan, a name which translates Optical Illusion, is a nature residence located at Eriksberg in Blekinge which allows visitors sleep securely surrounded by wild animals. The vision was to incorporate the region’s traditional residential architecture, like the thatched roof, with contemporary elements of reflecting, dented sheet metal. http://dlvr.it/RsvNfn

Since the collapse of communism thirty years ago, Warsaw’s hyper-centre has become a testing ground for all sorts of rapidly expanding corporate architectures. At the same time, public space seems to have been frozen and barely evolved in its monumental scale and socialist form. In Marebbe, next to a narrow bend of road Passo Furcia, along which various hamlets line up, again and again, Ciasa Le Fiun stands alone on a relatively steep south-facing slope with a view towards the Sass de Putia. The investor wished for an extension to his farmhouse in Southern Bohemia, one that he could rest and relax in – a lookout and an observatory. We extended the volume of one of the wings of the building with a semi-transparent wooden structure made out of spruce and larch timber. In terms of articulation of form, the extension is in complete harmony with the original farmhouse. In the year 2014 burned down the 1385 consecrated Church St. Martha Kirche in Nuremberg for unexplained reasons. It was also lost the original historical roof truss over the Church interior. Gyermely Town Center. The project encompasses the revitalization process of an aging and increasingly impoverished Hungarian small town. Far from the bustling metropolitan areas, the agriculture based rural lifestyle is slowly disappearing. Poverty, aging communities due to the migration of young residents and depopulation are common tendencies, yet over the last decades, the community of Gyermely has successfully implemented projects to reverse this process. "The challenge of architecture today is to understand the rural world" Rem Koolhaas The project supports the renovation of a dwelling in nature consisting of three pavilions and the creation of a new pavilion as a "connected office". The main objective is to convert it into a house that meets the housing needs that the recent pandemic has shown to be lacking, to adapt it to its current living situation, to improve energy efficiency... and to enrich the quality of life of the owners. The origin of the house was the transformation of an old shed.
