Lacquer Art Experience Pavilion / Atelier QIZAO

Hình ảnh
Project Background. Lacquer Art Experience BnB is located in the Fengshou village, Pujiang Country Park, Minhang District, Shanghai. The village is located in the riverside zone between Pujiang Town and Huangpu River. The village was spontaneously formed by the locals, showing the organic urban texture. As the area has not been centrally developed, residential housing and municipal infrastructure are decrepit. Under the call of the National Rural Revitalization, the local village government began to renovate the original village organically. The lacquer art experience BnB was introduced as a cultural and creative industry in order to attract tourists from the surrounding parks through the cultural and creative space experience to drive the economic development of the village. http://dlvr.it/S2ldhT

Naila House / BAAQ'

Hình ảnh
The house sits on a rocky point, as a beacon to the sea, with two fronts towards the Pacific coast. The cross-shaped courtyard has four seven-meter-high volumes, with a pitched roof that frame views to the sea. The conceptual process started from the idea of defining two compositional axes, creating a cross-shaped patio that articulates the 4 volumes of the project. These volumes were key to achieve an adequate integration between the architecture and its immediate surrounding. The different angles in plan and section that configure the volumes were designed with the purpose of allowing the user to have ocean views from any room, and formally merge with the rocky landscape of the beach. http://dlvr.it/S2gjQ5

Natural Ventilation Solutions in Interior Design

Hình ảnh
When designing homes, architecture is constantly evolving and adapting to environmental conditions. Each climate has specific needs and requires different solutions in terms of comfort. Hot and humid environments require a very different design from cold and dry environments. Natural ventilation, for example, is very important in projects located in warm climates. http://dlvr.it/S2f4Pr

Hình ảnh
The apartment is located on the ground floor of a building and opens onto a large patio between party walls. According to the plan of Madrid by Tomas Lopez in 1785, the apartment building is built on top of a former lead factory in the old industrial zone in the district of Lavapiés. During the construction of the new residential building in 1920, part of the structure and slabs from the factory were recycled for reuse in the ground floor of the new building. http://dlvr.it/S2ZRYy

Paper Museum in Dongshan Village / THUPDI Department of Traditional Village

Hình ảnh
Project Background. Dongshan is a village whose traditional landscape has been eroded heavily. It was well-known in papermaking in history and now is strong in paper box making due to the quick development of the internet and express industry in Hangzhou City. The design team uses paper as the breaking point for the protection and development of Dongshan village, putting the exhibition of traditional papermaking, the experience of traditional paper sheeting, the art of paper box and lessons of modern paper craft into a paper museum transformed from a traditional and dilapidated residence. So that the museum will become a new public space combining paper culture exhibition and experience with leisure activities. http://dlvr.it/S2Y0fX

Banal Restaurant / Reims 502

Hình ảnh
The industrial corridor which embraced the city of Queretaro in the eighties, throughout time and the accelerated growth of the city, left vacant industrial buildings as a product of the rearrangement of new industrial centers in the outskirts of the city. A few meters away from the symbolic Aqueduct, the restaurant Banal inhabits one of these recycled structures, whose previous owners used to be a wine and a flower shop. http://dlvr.it/S2XQTY

MIC House / clpp architectes

Hình ảnh
This project consists of the restoration of a traditional French farmhouse from the Perch region and the transformation of the barn located nearby. The owners are a family with six children who wanted to create a warm and comfortable space for family gatherings on weekends and during holidays. We asked ourselves not only how we can solve this practical challenge but also reflected best to connect the two structures. http://dlvr.it/S2Wq7L

Collins Beach House / Tobias Partners

Hình ảnh
This home is set on a beautiful, semi-bushland, yet urban site on the edge of the harbour, with two mature Norfolk Pine trees standing guard to the North-West. This incredible location offered a truly unique setting for our client’s house – however the site's shape and boundaries, significant setback controls and bushfire zoning presented challenges to the design and use of the site. http://dlvr.it/S2VK6W

Lunchrooms Industrial Facility / Taller de Arquitectura Miguel Montor

Hình ảnh
In our projects, it is crucial that shape and atmosphere come from the information the site provides. In this way, we came up with the idea that would become the driving force of this building, the atmospheric decontextualization. The requirement was unique and invited us to generate an atmospheric dissociation in the experience of the place. The assignment was to design the main and satellite lunchrooms for an industrial facility. Due to the quick growth that this company has had, the number of employees has increased significantly. In the search for the welfare of the workers themselves, the insertion of several new projects was imminent. This type of industry requires its processes to be carried out indoors. In these places, there is a high level of temperature and noise, no contact with the exterior, and the need for a high level of concentration. http://dlvr.it/S2Tgp9

A Guide to Off-Grid Architectures

Hình ảnh
Anyone who lives in a big city may have dreamed of moving elsewhere and living isolated, in a house among the trees or on a deserted beach. During the pandemic and the endless months of quarantine, many more may have had this same idea. As romantic and seductive as this may seem, however, living deep in nature comes with some important practical challenges. Rarely would anyone give up the little comforts they are used to, like turning on a faucet or charging their cell phone. If the location is, in fact, remote, it may not have electricity, drinking water, gas, sewage, or solid waste collection. But there remain several possibilities for a life with comfort and without neighbors. What are the main solutions to enable this and how can an architectural project provide an off-the-grid life? http://dlvr.it/S2PBYk

Site plan. Late autumn. Rural village outside the city. I visited the site where shabby farm houses and vinyl houses were scattered here and there. It was a place where the water flowing from the mountain made dizzy mud and was full of weeds. It was a distracting landscape far from the romantic rural scene. http://dlvr.it/S2LyT8

GeoGuessr Game Uses Street View to Create a Geographical Puzzle

Hình ảnh
A geographic discovery game based on Google imagery, GeoGuessr requires players to guess various locations worldwide using only the clues provided by a Street view. Created in 2013, the game has taken on new relevance amidst the pandemic, as it provides a virtual travel experience. From desolate roads to famous sites, the game teases deductive reasoning, requiring players to make use of any clue, from signs, language, flags, landscape, to pinpoint their surroundings. http://dlvr.it/S2KLFB

How an Insulated Metal Panel Envelope Can Meet Fire Safety Codes

Hình ảnh
The way in which a fire evolves largely depends on the materials that constitute the building, as well as how it is designed. For this reason, there exist a number of fire safety requirements in building codes that must be followed during the initial design stages, as well as the physical construction of a building. In addition to these building codes, there are other considerations that must be taken into account such as thermal comfort, acoustics, and accessibility. When specifying a material or product for part of a building, the architect or design professional must pay close attention to meeting these demands. An example of a suitable material choice is the Insulated Metal Panel (IMP), which can have superior thermal properties, various appearance possibilities and good fire resistance. http://dlvr.it/S2GLGF

Lixiang Village Public Space / AESEU Architectural Technology and Art studio

Hình ảnh
Project Background. Lixiang Village is a village about 60 kilometers away from Nanjing city. It is a plain village near the mountain. The canals and ponds in Lixiang were formed by the rivers in the nearby mountains flowing through rice fields and villages. In recent years, Li Xiang has attracted many tourists for sightseeing because of the blueberry planting industry and characteristic historical culture. However, the original public facilities in the village could not meet the increasing demand for tourist services. Hence, in 2016, the ATA design team renovated some of the abandoned houses in the village to create a new village alley that runs through the interior of the village and integrates the function of tourist services, catering, historical exhibitions, cultural and creative exhibitions, and sales. This new village alley is not closed but integrated with the houses. The business opportunities of the tourists in the village have attracted many aboriginal villagers to return to

Rediscovered Mies van der Rohe Design Is Being Built on the Campus of Indiana University

Hình ảnh
A new shared facility for Indiana University's Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, materialises a recently rediscovered design by Mies van der Rohe. The 1952 project was intended for a fraternity house on the same IU Bloomington campus where it is currently being built, and the design incorporated the same white steel frame and expansive glass panes aesthetic as the Farnsworth House, created around the same time. After being forgotten for six decades, the design resurfaced in 2013, and the two-storey building will open its doors this fall. http://dlvr.it/S29lSQ

The house is located on the border between Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, in Bocaina de Minas, close to Visconde de Mauá, in the Morro Cavado Valley. Located on the margins of the Itatiaia National Park, its relationship with the terrain and landscape is the fundamental axis of its conception. The house was shaped by the design of the topography and built using low environmental impact construction techniques, taking advantage of locally available materials and the knowledge and labor of the region. http://dlvr.it/S27dxd

Attic Apartment Vinohrady / caraa.cz

Hình ảnh
The attic flat was part of the overall reconstruction of an apartment building. The Art Nouveau house was damaged and neglected by time and use, but remained authentically original. The aim was to find the original condition of the house and restore the historic features with minimal interference. There were two major interventions. The extension of the elevator - steel tower with a glass facade and the attic construction of the apartment unit. http://dlvr.it/S26HhX

The site is located on a peninsula overlooking the U.K.'s largest stretch of inland water, Loch Lomond. An existing cafe marks the entrance situation for visitors arriving either by car from the A82 or by boat. From the car park with adjoining jetty, a system of pathways lead onto the peninsula and continue along its exposed edges formed by big rocks, or through the site sheltered by trees and bushes. The rocks locate the site high above the water's edge and a series of steps and easily accessible ramps lead the visitor through the sloped inside of the site. The pathways interlink, creating a parcour with rendezvous points adding emphasis to these junctions.  The topography of the site allows the surrounding landscape to be experienced as a panorama, with the site itself visible from afar, like a rock amongst water. http://dlvr.it/S24LfS

N House / moss.

Hình ảnh
This project was a renovation of an atmospheric vintage apartment in the Magome neighborhood of Tokyo. The owners are a married couple working for a furniture maker. We changed the original two-bedroom layout to a light-filled one-bedroom with living room, dining area, and kitchen. The clients’ requests were simple: good light, a large living room, and minimal use of colors. Working with the limitations of a 55-square-meter apartment, our intention while conceiving this design was to add richness and depth to the space. We focused on the following four elements: http://dlvr.it/S22HCq

Queer Looks On Architecture: From Challenging Identity-Based Approaches To Spatial Thinking

Hình ảnh
A growing number of theorists and practitioners have been discussing the impact of gender and race on the profession and theory of architecture. Issues linked to the relationship between the built environment, sexual orientation, and gender identity, however, remain particularly understudied, perhaps because of their relative invisibility and less clearly identifiable discriminatory consequences. Moreover, they are also completely neglected by design theory in the Francophone world. This article partially remedies the situation. http://dlvr.it/S20tGd

X is Not a Small Country Exhibition / Daniel Zamarbide

Hình ảnh
The exhibition design follows these lines of thought: Fieldwork: the resurrection of Henrique Galvão’s 1934 map, a complex referential transnational framework. Translation: the very actual and misused topic of borders, peripheries, nations dictating conventions on one side of a line against what might happen on the other. Lines: suggested by a deformed, half invisible grid offering potential narratives of referential diversity, blurring north-south orientations. Geography: an insinuated three-dimensional space grid eludes any clear belonging. Choice: “if I had to choose between The Doors and Dostoyevsky, then – of course – I’d choose Dostoyevsky. But do I have to choose?” (Susan Sontag in Jonathan Cott, The Complete Rolling Stone Interview, Yale University Press, 2013). http://dlvr.it/S1y1ht

Big Top House / The Ranch Mine

Hình ảnh
After a decade of trying to adapt their lives to the confines of a house that couldn’t meet their needs, a young family purchased a vacant lot at the base of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. The lot had a mountain view but came with a concave property line that narrowed the allowable building depth in the middle of the long lot to just 20 feet. This challenge prompted the homeowners to look for an architecture firm with the ambition to be unique and will engage the family in the creative process, ultimately leading them to The Ranch Mine, an architecture firm they had met 5 years earlier at a social entrepreneur incubator. http://dlvr.it/S1tF1d

The Rectoría at Monterrey Tec’s primary campus in Monterrey, Mexico, serves as the central administration building for the entire system of campuses around Mexico. The building is the most iconic on the campus and one of the most important in the history of modern architecture in Mexico. Since its construction, its use has changed many times. The result of all these modifications over the years is that the building retains its historic character in some areas, but not necessarily in others. A clear sense of cohesion is lacking. Most importantly, however, the spaces do not function optimally. http://dlvr.it/S1kcFn
