Charm Premier Grand Gotenyama Nursing Home / Nikken Housing System Ltd

Hình ảnh
Senior Home Interwoven in the City - Located on a serene, green street in central Tokyo, the Nibankan (Phase 2 building) defies the conventional notion of elder care homes. Rather than isolating seniors from the city, we propose a new Nursing Home that allows them to embrace urban life, living with dignity and comfort. Japan's rapidly aging population faces issues involving isolation and a shortage of care workers. Our response to this is a home that preserves the health and agency of elderly citizens through community integration. We designed the Nibankan to seamlessly blend with the local society and society. The strategic positioning of spaces on a continuum of distance from the neighborhood empowers residents to control their level of engagement with the community. The design features dining rooms, salons, and lounges that open to and face the street. This fosters casual interaction with neighbors. The communal dining room serves as a stage for public collaborative events, brid

Magy Upper Apartment Renovation / atelier tao+c

Built in 1936, Magy Apartment was a historical residential building on Wulumuqi Road in Shanghai. The client rented a small studio on the upper floor, eager to have “a comfortable interior that one would feel poised even being confined for a few months”. The architect designed the project in a special condition from March to May in 2022 when the city was locked down. http://dlvr.it/SynmPj

Arcloud / Carve

A new public realm. Arcloud is a large mixed-use development located at the foot of the Geomdansan mountain on the eastern edge of Seoul. The entire development - a mix of larger housing blocks, single-family units, commercial, recreational, and educational facilities. The Arcloud shopping mall, its name somewhat deceiving, since it encompasses much more: it is a modern hybrid city block, a stacked city that combines retail, housing, public facilities, underground parking, rooftop parks, and a central plaza- aiming to become the lively center of this new Seoul residential area. http://dlvr.it/SynmJ0

A Production Facility in Germany and An Observatory in Athens: 8 Unbuilt Multi-Functional Projects Submitted by the ArchDaily Community

Hình ảnh
Urban environments are constantly evolving, with cities becoming the hubs of cultural diversity and economic life. In fact, the globe is speeding towards a future in which 70% of people will live in cities by 2050. Architects are at the core of this revolutionary movement, rethinking the nature of a city due to this urban surge. In response to this immense focus on newer and more diverse cities, architects and designers are leaning towards multifunctional and mixed-use projects. Attracting diverse crowds of people, mixed-use architecture explores the maximum potential of what a structure can serve. http://dlvr.it/SynDv6

House on the Slope / Chaoffice

Hình ảnh
This architectural endeavor embodies a poetic symphony of change and diversity, a dwelling that hosts three generations, a family of nine. While the dwelling primarily cradles the two elders, it metamorphoses into a lively space during weekends, festivals, and the radiant embrace of summer, welcoming the laughter of children. This 400-square-meter place should serve old and young, every family member, and also a place that allows humans to find solace in the company of others. Rather than crafting a singular, imposing structure, our aim is to create a reminiscence of the intricate scenes portrayed in the paintings of Peter Bruegel, where every detail weaves its own unique story into the fabric of existence. In a world dominated by standardized living spaces, how do we provide a realm where diverse forms, scales, and the interplay of light and shadow bring forth a rich tapestry of life? Our exploration unfolds through staggered sequences, unveiling possibilities for a living narrative t

Garden Tea Room / Rashid Ali Architects

The structure is a small garden pavilion made almost entirely of timber. It is located inside a large private garden open to neighbors and invited guests for social and educational events. Primarily, it functions as a space for the owner to enjoy the garden and socialize with friends and neighbors. In addition to private enjoyment and informal socializing, it is intended for educational workshops (business literacy) for women in the neighborhood and the playful, hands-on education of young children.  http://dlvr.it/SylP9Z

‘ocio’ means rest or relaxation space. As coffee culture became popular, it was intended to embody the mental relaxation felt while drinking coffee rather than simply drinking and savoring coffee. The intention was to draw visual attention to the exterior with 'stainless steel,' and the red wave bricks stacked high from the second to third floors enhanced the volume of the building. http://dlvr.it/SykDdk

Are Living Rooms Still Relevant? 16 Projects that Explore how these Private Gathering Spaces Adapt to the Contemporary Home

Hình ảnh
Today, architecture has become - or is in the process of becoming - more flexible and individualistic to accommodate people's diverse lifestyles and spatial needs. With this adaptation, the residential typology has changed and living rooms have become endangered. Many insist on the need of having a space dedicated to relaxation and leisure, while others claim it is simply a waste of space and money. This debate raised an important question: do we still need living/sitting rooms? In this interior focus, we will look at how living rooms evolved through the years, and how architects readapted and integrated the concept of “gathering space” in contemporary residential architecture. http://dlvr.it/SyjLH0

Shanghai West Bund AI Tower & Plaza / Nikken Sekkei

Hình ảnh
Located on the west bank of the Huangpu River (West Bund), which runs north-to-south through Shanghai, this project comprises four buildings, including two skyscrapers. Nikken Sekkei was selected in an international design competition in 2009 to lead a new urban development on the site of the former local Longhua Airport. The firm has been involved in local area urban and architectural design for over a decade. The most distinctive feature of the project is the "wind design" of the overall layout and the shape of the building volumes. The shape and exterior of the buildings, the public spaces in the commercial zone, the landscaping, and the interior designs reflect wind-generated streamlining. This concept runs through the entire project. http://dlvr.it/SyhWkj

A Glimpse into the Evolution of Insulation Materials in Architecture

Hình ảnh
Although more related to evolutionary aspects than to architecture itself, the inherent physical fragility of human beings has required, since prehistoric times, that we protect our bodies and our buildings from external elements. As an example, beginning with the primitive huts used in the earliest forms of domestic architecture, furs were employed as an exterior covering to restrict the flow of air and, consequently, regulate the interior environment. http://dlvr.it/SyctVv

Jinqiao Caojiagou Riverfront Renewal Design / VIASCAPE design

Hình ảnh
Caojiagou is a tributary of the Huangpu River, which is excluded from the key channel system of Shanghai. In contrast to the renowned Huangpu River or Suzhou Creek, the Caojiagou riverfront appeared to be enclosed, poorly maintained, desolated and lacked interaction with local inhabitants and urban functionalities before renewal. So how to transform the small channel side space from the back side of the urban landscape to the front side of public daily life is the key point of the renewal design. http://dlvr.it/SybH5Q

Modern Mirage: Paul Clemence's Installation Transforms the Architecture of Pampulha

Hình ảnh
A mirage can refer to an optical phenomenon caused by the refraction of light on certain surfaces, creating the illusion of a liquefied appearance. It can also represent an illusion, where something appears to be different from what it actually is. Paul Clemence capitalizes on this dual interpretation in his photographic essay, Modern Mirage, which features Casa do Baile (now the Reference Center for Architecture, Urbanism, and Design), the Art Museum, and the Church of Pampulha. He captures these iconic structures as they are reflected in the water mirrors of the modern complex designed by Oscar Niemeyer in Belo Horizonte, MG. http://dlvr.it/SyZFt5

Interweaving Ideas: Exploring the Work of Rede Arquitetos

Hình ảnh
The term "rede" in Portuguese traditionally conveys the idea of an interweaving of wires. In a contemporary context, it takes on a broader meaning related to connection, collaboration, and integration, whether among ideas, people, or processes. Not coincidentally, these are the core principles of Rede Arquitetos, a collaborative architecture studio founded in 2011 in Fortaleza, Ceará, by architects Bruno Perdigão, Epifanio Almeida, Igor Ribeiro, and Bruno Braga. Presently, the team is led by Braga, Luiz Cattony, and João Torquato, with their main approach emphasizing collective work and valuing encounters over the domination of ideas as a strategy for achieving the best solutions. http://dlvr.it/SyWcn4

Anagram Coffee / Tristan & Ju

Hình ảnh
In the smallest floor plate that we have ever undertook, the foremost design intent of ANAGRAM was to present the making of specialty coffee as an ART, a DISPLAY of showmanship between the barista, his CRAFT and the produce. By positioning the main counter right in the middle of this tiny hole-in-the-wall, the process of creating a cup of coffee takes centre-stage in this arena. The counter is of considerable size in comparison to the tight space, but like a thrust stage in a theatrical setting, its objective was to elevate the intimacy between the barista (actor) and his customers (audience). Similarly, the form of the counter had been deliberately designed as irregular, with two raised platforms at the ends, serving as a bar and POS (point of sale). This way, the customers become spectators actively participating in a performance, creating a smooth interaction between barista-and-customer. http://dlvr.it/SyNpFn

Square Tower of the Lviv Citadel / Architecture Studio Symmetry

Hình ảnh
Architectural Studio Symmetry recently completed work on the restoration project of the square tower of the Lviv Citadel. The tower was built in the 1850s as part of the Citadel defense complex on one of the Lviv hills. At that time, Lviv was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Venetian Arsenal was the model of the architectural style for the Austrian military construction, in particular on the objects of the Galicia-Carpathian line. The neoclassical tradition formed the basis of the romantic-medieval stylization of Austrian military buildings in the middle of the 19th century, such as the military arsenal in Vienna, the Home for the disabled in Lviv, and the Lviv Citadel. http://dlvr.it/SyNnKs
