Berd Studio presents a project for a Coffee Atelier in Justicia, Madrid, combining the minimalist and simple style of the studio with the eclectic air that its clients were looking for. The project consists of creating a space free of stereotypes, a specialty coffee run by its owners, Manuela, chef, and Martina, barista. A meeting place where events of all kinds take place, music, art, cooking, coffee, casual meetings and even a co-workspace, everyone is welcome, including pets. http://dlvr.it/STn8kP

Throughout the years, Mexican cities had experimented with urban and regulation changes -sometimes unplanned- due to the demand for living spaces, creating a void and density difference between the downtown neighborhoods and the outside suburbs. On that basis, living in a community and recovering the public space to re-densify the city, have been the values and goals to share from our trench to deal with the uncontrolled urban growth. Seongbuk-dong Share Kitchen Remodeling - ‘Assisi’ is a small town in the central area of Italy, and it is famous for buildings that were built by piling up bright colored building stones. The building owner visited this area a few years back and wanted to reflect on the feelings from the trip while remodeling an old house in the village of Seongbuk-dong. The exotic impression of ‘Little Assisi,’ a shared kitchen designed by remodeling an old house, began from this mind. In the façade acquainted with the alley, a material that reminds of Assisi was selected to show a fresh design that is hard to find nearby. In addition, all the rooms were demolished to use as a shared kitchen and designed so that the cooking process and meals can be enjoyed in a wide space. http://dlvr.it/STlBYg

This building was requested in the midst of the pandemic, by the ARCOS Institute of Professional Education for its pre-cordillera headquarters located in Peñalolén, Santiago de Chile, and its objective was to expand the infrastructure to be able to house its students due to the new capacity required. One of the main requirements was that its execution should be fast and low-cost. Which led to seeking a balance between maximum efficiency and minimum effort. It was projected as a "parasite" of the old building, which is fed by existing services, both electrical networks, stairwells, circulation corridors, elevators, etc. It does not have its own services. http://dlvr.it/STkbrR

Malmö Sports School is situated in the stadium area in Malmö. It is a school with a sports profile, home to 540 pupils, grades 7-9. It offers 12 different sports integrated with the school’s curriculum. It is a collaboration between the city and some of the leading sports clubs in Malmö and it enables the pupils to focus on their sport of choice as well as their academic work. This seems to be an excellent arrangement and the school is ranked as number one in Malmö and attracts pupils from different backgrounds from all over the city as well as other areas and towns outside the municipality. http://dlvr.it/STjyvR

Quality Innovation United (QIU) has completed THE CUBE for the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts’ International Container Art Festival. The festival’s theme of Van Buren Supernova revolves around light, stars, hope, and a new life. THE CUBE is to spark the imagination about Kaohsiung’s future while firmly linked to the city’s port heritage. The house is envisaged as a large concrete tray that hovers over a white monolith. The placement of this tray is directed by the sun’s movement with respect to the vertical white surfaces below. As a consequence, the tray extends itself outwards, shielding the walls on the west and south. The summer house in Vääna-Jõesuu, some 35 km from Tallinn, is like the archetype of a house – a tepee or the steep slope of a farmhouse roof in the middle of nature. The minimalist tent-like form that was often used in cottage architecture in the area in the 1970s has been added kinetic elements turning the laconic volume into a contemporary light and airy summer house. EBBA have been working with the London Legacy Development Corporation on an exciting project to deliver a center for construction skills learning. In collaboration with CITB and TFL, the construction school provides the opportunity for people to be sponsored through practical education and training. Phase 1 of the construction skills school was completed in the summer of 2021. EBBA have helped to deliver the project after being appointed to design the scheme for the Olympic Park. The public scheme, which will be run by the Construction Industry Training Board and the Skills Centre, is set to be in use for the next 4 years and will provide valuable skills based on “hands-on” learning to local people in the area. http://dlvr.it/STfpgd

The Browns Point neighborhood is a place where the birth of modern-day Tacoma was witnessed from across the waters of Commencement Bay. Here, familial roots run deep; many residents return to raise children in the same small-town environment in which they were reared. At the base of the bluff, the Browns Point lighthouse serves as an unofficial symbol of the waterfront community. The building is located in Kalamata, Messenia, Greece, inside an extensive olive grove, which is a pocket of nature enclosed within a rapidly growing part of the urban fabric. On the southern periphery of the site stood a magnificent and ancient Raintree that influenced the spatial layout of this 4-bedroom house in Chennai. The tree, with its sculptural roots and the giant canopy, was a primary driver in determining the layout and design of the house. We wanted the tree to be omnipresent, so we created the entrance court around its roots and positioned the living room in such a way as to have direct views of it. The Project is located in the green zone where “Sa Cova Son Caulelles” is found, in Pórtol, Marratxí. It lies on a very irregular site, due to an existing old sandstone quarry. Hoor Al Qasimi, the President of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, and its curator Tosin Oshinowo, have announced the title and theme of the 2023 Triennial as "The Beauty of Impermanence: An Architecture of Adaptability". The theme reflects on the issues of scarcity in the Global South, and how this challenge has created a "culture of re-use, re-appropriation, innovation, collaboration and adaptation". Like The Heart Archive, which is hidden in the woods by the sea, the artist hopes that the Heartbeat Museum will also be “hidden.” The site of the building is located on the side of the mountain in the canyon, and the architects sink the entire building into the mountain only through a curved road in the woods can you enter The Heart Pavilion. The new tower promotes employee synergy and enhanced wellbeing by bringing all of the bank’s corporate employees together under one roof. The design for “Gardens” has its background in contemporary research that indicates elderly people’s well-being in care centers is strongly correlated with attractive green outdoor environments and social interaction. Ghadimkhoone is an eco-lodge resort located in Iran, Gilan, Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh, Lasku Kalayeh. The aim of this eco-lodge was formed based on using patterns, methods, and executive details of Gilan’s local houses as well as sustainable architectural criteria, to build an eco-lodge resort that meets the needs of today’s tourists. With this explanation and considering the obsolescence of Gilan’s local house construction methods and the very limited sources and books of Gilan’s exact methods of construction, the first challenge of the project was to find these methods. The second was to build a sustainable building with maximum resilience, minimum negative environmental impact, restoration of materials, and their return to the life cycle. As part of the London Festival of Architecture, French-Lebanese architect Annabel Karim Kassar and her award-winning studio AKK have unveiled a new installation at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London titled The Lebanese House: Saving a home, Saving a city. The installation explores the aftermaths of the Beirut explosion, and the rebuilding of the city with a life-size replica of a typical Lebanese home, one of the few remaining classic Ottoman-Venetian houses left in old Beirut, along with documentary films. http://dlvr.it/STT4b5

At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, affluent Parisians flocked to second homes on France’s Atlantic coast as a nationwide lockdown came down on the country. In June 2020, as the lockdown was eased in England, residents headed to seaside towns like Bournemouth to soak in sunny weather. Bengal, a warm humid delta, complex by its nature is the home of multiple cultures and religions. Throughout the course of time people of various cultural and religious background along with their own philosophies, beliefs and the unique techniques of survival came to this land and merged with the existing culture and people which resulted to a rich and diverse culture. The climate is also very much complex and unique by nature due to geographic location. Both these factors have highly governed the architecture of this region. Aedas has unveiled the design of the Hangzhou Yun He Wan International Tourism and Leisure Complex in Hangzhou, China. Located in the southern area of the Grand Canal New Town in the Gongshu District of Hangzhou, the site is the first phase of a larger project, starting off as a vibrant international tourism and leisure complex that highlights the waterfront of Yun He Wan and the historical remains of the nearby industrial pier. http://dlvr.it/STPsHK

School for the blind and visually impaired children in Gandhinagar is designed for children from remote villages and towns in Gujarat and professors eager to offer them a better education and opportunities in society. Initially, the school occupied an existing building, previously a primary school. The 1st floor was used as classrooms for academic activities and the ground floor as dormitories. The team of architects was entrusted with the implementation of the conversion of the territory of the immovable cultural values - the historical barracks in the Žemieji Šančiai district, to develop a creative placemaking, bringing vibrancy to an old military district. Built in a historic environment, Queen Martha's School building became a part of the transformation of an abandoned barracks into a multifunctional residential area consisting of 7 residential, 2 commercial buildings, a school, and a kindergarten. http://dlvr.it/STJMXY

Located near Pedra do Baú, the main tourist spot in the municipality of São Bento do Sapucaí, the chalet SBS was designed to function as a guesthouse. The house located on a top of a mountain, near the border between the state of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, with a wide view of the region. The construction was conceived as two volumes of equal dimensions that support a unique light roof, and which are crossed - and joined - by a balcony that extends towards the slope and the astonishing view, forming a viewpoint that extends to the horizon. One of the volumes houses a living room and kitchen, in addition to a laundry/technical area, which is accessed by a deck located at the back of the building. The Lanes Residences occupies a prominent corner location that is artfully used to mediate between high-rise development along the coastal fringe and domestically scaled interior suburbs of Australia’s Gold Coast. Four residential towers balance the urban link and landscape of Lake Unity, with a fluid architectural language mimicking land contours and vegetal growth. http://dlvr.it/STHsbf

Le Kraken is an ephemeral installation that inhabits the central esplanade of the historical site that hosts Les SUBS and the fine arts university of Lyon ENSBA. Predominantly associated with places of worship, stained glass has been used by artisans across the globe for thousands of years in an array of art ventures and installations. Intensifying architecture with vivid color, the process of stained glass refers to a particular action in which glass has been colored via metallic oxides during its manufacture, using different additives in order to create a range of hues and tones. http://dlvr.it/STFnps

The ruined “Porta Gabella” of Ripa Teatina has been revived with the insertion of a clearly distinguishable architectural element from the context, a cor-ten steel structure, enclosed by an envelope of vertical strings, through a contemporary language full of echoes of medieval architecture. A dreamlike interpretation of the medieval gate, its shape suggests a metaphoric image of two stylized door leaves that open outwards. http://dlvr.it/STFnhZ

After winning the competition in 2018, the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have completed the Chengdu Sports Center (also known as Dong’an Lake Sports Park), an ensemble consisting of three new sports and leisure buildings in the Chinese metropolis Chengdu. It will be the venue for the coming FISU World University Games. The new sports center will become the focal point of Dong’an New Town – an area situated by the water to the west of the city center, in the heart of the Longquan district. The ensemble comprises a group of buildings around a central plaza, consisting of a sports hall with 18,000 seats, a multifunctional hall for culture, leisure, and popular sports, as well as an indoor pool complex with two 50-meter swimming pools. http://dlvr.it/STFnXs
