Aedas Global, in collaboration with GDAD, revealed the design of a 230 meters tall mixed-use complex comprising of two twin towers and a plaza. The development, located at the base of the Baiyun Mountain range in Guangzhou, China, contains industrial, commercial, and publicly available areas while also including large urban green spaces and panoramic views of the mountains. The new sports hall at the Alter Postweg in Vaihingen an der Enz (Baden-Württemberg) is designed as a compact, functional and very economical timber element construction. Only the parts in contact with the ground are made of reinforced concrete. This is a story that began in the Swiss mountains as an echo of the writings of the Swiss novelist Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz. This plot gave birth to Antoine, a peculiar architectural creature that welcomes many nomadic inhabitants and nature enthusiasts since 2014, offering them shelter inside the figure of the boulder. The Program The buildings house a residential complex made up of 125 apartments, garages, and storage rooms, which during the project and commissioning process have allowed the development of 22 different types of apartments, both on a single floor and in duplex format. The complex is exclusively dedicated to residential use. The 217 apartments of the Ried Baufeld B «Monarch» are directly derived from the logic of the master plan: Everyone lives by the green. Located in the magic town of Tacámbaro (nearby the Pátzcuaro’s lake area), this project emerges from a local family’s idea to create two small vacation houses into an existing rustic villa. At the gateway to central Aarhus, on the threshold between suburban residential housing and urban city blocks, lies Villa Landluft – a stately mansion built in 1897 with references to Italian Renaissance architecture. The name Villa Landluft, Danish for ‘Villa Country Air’, originates from a time when the house was situated far outside of central Aarhus. After more than a hundred years of urban development, this once proud mansion had declined into a dilapidated architectural alien – a last remaining bastion of a bygone era. Berlin-based office ALAS designed the new headquarters of the paint manufacturing and technology-development company Hemmelrath Technologies in Erlenbach am Main, Germany. The building is part of the MoFa Building Project, which stands for Modular Factory and consists of a turn-key product for customers who are interested in a sustainable and integral solution comprising both the technology and the building around it. Unconstrained by the dogmas of established offices, new architectural practices can often challenge building norms and redefine living standards. The Young European Architecture Festival (YEAH!) is an event dedicated to highlighting these new and emerging practices and bringing their contributions to the built environment into focus. The property - the castle park in Murstetten - is an extraordinary place with historical significance and an eventful history. Parts of this history are still recognisable today in fragments. The special location is characterised by the direct proximity to the compact village centre in the east and the fields and meadows in the west. The historically charged site in Murstetten, retains its rough, wild appearance and is extended by a small installation in the form of a weekend house. Chalet Marie-Louise is located at the bottom of the southern slope of the Bec du Corbeau, near the center of the village. The surrounding context is relatively dense and heterogeneous. The project is implanted at the top of the plot in order to seek distant views and to clear the south of the land into a garden. The natural slope of the land allows distinguishing two entrances, that of the main house on the upper ground floor, and a «mountain» room on the lower ground floor, which serves as a checkroom and serves the two dwellings independently. http://dlvr.it/SfP9kL

This project had a peculiar starting point: It began at the same time as its construction. Once the license was granted, the client decided to change architects and called us to rethink the project and provide a contemporary character that was lacking. The project had to work with a pre-imposed footprint of four interconnected volumes. Carlota and Alejandro wanted colour. They wanted a cheerful apartment. The apartment they had bought was totally fragmented in small dark rooms and basically looked very grey. Carlota works in fashion, she has a lot of clothes and accessories to store seasonally. Alejandro is more a books and vinyl fun. This simple village house with an attic and a small cellar stands in the middle of a corner plot in the settlement of Baně, southeast of Zbraslav. Its fate was affected by a fire that irreparably damaged mainly the ceilings and the roof. Convent House is the extension of a 1900 house between party walls in Sabadell, Barcelona. The existing building was a two-storey house with an overbuilt courtyard. The intervention preserves the street façade and the Catalan vault on the ground floor. The rest is emptied with the aim of growing in height and reducing the building’s footprint by freeing up as much space as possible in the courtyard. http://dlvr.it/Sf7mw1

David Adjaye, in partnership with Bedrock and the city of Cleveland, unveiled the masterplan for the Cuyahoga Riverfront, a 15-to-20-year vision that will transform 35 acres of the riverfront to improve accessibility, equity, sustainability, and resilience of the downtown area. The design embraces the city’s rich history and connection to nature and creates a sustainable infrastructure that prioritizes pedestrian movement and activates open public spaces. Designed by Cro&Co Architecture, Trinity Tower serves as a model and manifesto for the tall building of the future, imagined with well-being and sustainability at the heart through reconnecting users to their environment. Located in the Paris La Défense business district, Trinity Tower is a 32-story high-rise built atop a seven-lane roadway, an impressive feat of civil engineering and a first in France. The building is located in a new ensanche in the Southwest of Madrid, close to the M-40 ring road. Despite its urban character, the building is located close to big city voids which constitute urban heat sinks. The project takes its name due to the strategy of adapting to the nature of the topography and the solar orientation of the property. In this type of project where the possibilities are limited, we respond to the needs of the clients. Generally, they ask us for a ground floor bedroom with a full bathroom that we decided to give double duty so that it serves both for the use of the bedroom and for the guests. For us, it is essential that this bedroom has a controlled relationship to the outside, so we continually seek to generate a patio that provides good lighting and ventilation and at the same time privacy. More than two thousand years ago, Vitruvius would have answered that good architecture is that which contemplates three basic principles: firmitas (firmness), utilitas (utility), and venustas (beauty), as he described in his treatise De Architectura, and probably no one would have questioned it. "Life, space, buildings - in that order". This phrase, from the Danish urban architect Jan Gehl, sums up the changes that Copenhagen has undergone in the last 50 years. Currently known as one of the cities with the highest levels of quality of life satisfaction, the way its public spaces and buildings were and are designed have inspired architects, government authorities and urban planners around the world. What we see today, however, is the result of courageous decision-making, much observation and, above all, designs that put people first. Sport plays an important role in the life of every city, yet the buildings housing these activities pose a particular set of challenges to the architects. Scale and dimensions need to be adapted to allow for unrestricted movement, heights are adjusted to the force of an athlete’s throw, and lighting, surface, and finishes require careful consideration. The matter becomes even more complex if these activities become the center of large-scale events.
